The church is one of the oldest buildings in the Bishop Hill. Built in 1848 This two story building sits on a full basement. The basement and ground floors have a total of 20 rooms opening to a central corridor. Each room was used as a living space for a family. The sanctuary is located on the second floor. The pews are made of native walnut with turned maple spindles. Services were held without heat with women and children on the east side and men on the west. The church is owned by the State of Illinois, and is part of the Bishop HIll State Historic site. The first floor and sanctuary are open to the public, and feature exhibits to help you learn about life in Bishop Hill. TheColony church and village park were deeded to the State of Illinois in 1945.
