The Bishop Hill Museum

On the south end of the colony is the Bishop Hill Museum, also owned and operated by the State of Illinois. This marvelous buildiing contains photos and paintings and more depiciting what life was like in Historic Bishop Hill. The paintings of nationally recognized folk artist, Olof Krans provide glimpes into the story of Bishop Hill. Krans presented his paintings and portraits to the community in a series of gifts, beginning in 1896 at the very first Old Settlers' Reunion. The images warmed the memories of Colony days and still evoke the feeling that Bishop Hill is a place worth perserving, visiting, and exporing.Through Olof Krans' artistic reputation, the paintings continue to bring wide spread attention to Bishop Hill. Krans lived in Bishop Hill until 1861
